Isolation Valves Seismic Hazard Mitigation

Project Details

The Isolation Valves Seismic Hazard Mitigation Project was a natural hazard mitigation project identified in the Sonoma County Water Agency’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan that reduced the risk of damage or failure of the water transmission system as a result of a major seismic event.

The project’s objective was to add butterfly valves to various systems to minimize the uncontrolled release of potable water in the event of a pipe rupture. This project provided strategically located isolation valves of various sizes at 20 separate locations throughout their transmission system. Isolated sections of the pipeline included bearing blocks, double line stops, coupling adapters, butterfly valves and dewatering.
